20 Years of the Public Defender of Rights (Ombudsman) Act

(Department of Administrative Studies and Administrative Law)

The Public Defender of Rights (Ombudsman) Act reaches 20 years of existence this year. The Act established a new institute – Public Defender of Rights (Ombudsman) – in the Czech Republic. The institution quickly gained significant popularity, which was partly thanks to its first representative Otakar Motejl. It has been represented by several people during its nearly 20 years of existence who adopted their own approach to the performance of their function. Even the Ombudsman Act went through many changes during the 20 years which mainly extend the scope of authority of the Ombudsman. The goal of the section is to present the changes of the institution, its activity and the Act went through, so that the papers should be aimed at this goal. The papers concerned with problematic issues of the Act or the Ombudsman’s activity or with less known aspects of the section topic are also welcomed.

This section is under auspices of Mgr.Anna Šabatová, PhD, the public defender of rights.
